Overview

Marriott's Kaua'i Beach Club sits directly on Kalapaki Beach in Lihue, one of Kauai's most swimmable and family-friendly beaches. The resort shares its 800-acre grounds with the Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort, giving guests access to an impressive array of shared facilities including restaurants, pools, and spa services. Its location on Nawiliwili Bay means calm, protected waters ideal for swimming, bodyboarding, and stand-up paddleboarding.

What sets this property apart from other Kauai resorts is its villa-style accommodation. Unlike standard hotel rooms, the 232 units here are condo-style vacation rentals with separate living and sleeping areas, gourmet kitchenettes, and private lanais. It's the closest resort to Lihue Airport — just a 5-minute drive — making it the easiest arrival and departure day experience on the island.

The resort occupies a prime position on Kauai's east side, giving guests central access to both the North Shore's lush valleys and the South Shore's sunny beaches. Nawiliwili Harbor, where cruise ships dock and boat tours depart, is a short walk away. The surrounding area includes Anchor Cove Shopping Center, the Kauai Museum, and easy highway access to attractions island-wide.

Accommodation Options

Marriott's Kaua'i Beach Club offers three accommodation tiers: parlor studios, one-bedroom villas, and two-bedroom villas. Parlor studios feature a queen-size Murphy wall bed, a kitchenette with mini-refrigerator and microwave, and a private lanai — compact but functional for couples. One-bedroom villas step up significantly with a separate bedroom featuring a king bed, a living area with a queen Murphy bed, and a full gourmet center with sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, dinnerware, and stemware. Two-bedroom villas sleep up to six and add a second bedroom.

Every unit features Pacific-inspired decor, 55-inch LCD TVs with cable channels, and Wi-Fi. The higher-floor oceanfront units deliver sweeping views across Kalapaki Bay — request floors 3 or above in the Kilohana or Kahili wings for the best vantage points. Note that the villas don't include stove, oven, or cooktop, though BBQ grills are available on the resort lawn. The resort is currently undergoing renovations through April 2026, with pool deck and select lanai work in progress.

Pools, Beaches & Activities

The resort's showpiece is its 26,000-square-foot outdoor pool — one of the largest in Hawaii — ringed with colonnades and waterfalls that create a Roman bath atmosphere. The pool is expansive enough to never feel crowded, even during peak season. Adjacent to the main pool is a separate children's pool and a whirlpool spa, both well-maintained and supervised.

Beach access is the real draw here. Kalapaki Beach stretches directly in front of the resort — a wide crescent of golden sand with gentle, protected waters. It's one of Kauai's best beaches for families because the bay setting keeps waves manageable. Boogie boards and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent nearby, and outrigger canoe rides launch from the beach. The resort's beachfront location also means easy access to Nawiliwili Harbor, where kayak and sailing tours depart.

Spa & Wellness

The Alexander Day Spa and Salon occupies a serene space within the resort complex, offering a full menu of treatments inspired by Hawaiian healing traditions. Signature services include lomi lomi massage, hot stone therapy, body scrubs using local ingredients, facials, and manicures. Beach cabana massages are also available for those who want to be pampered with ocean views and trade-wind breezes.

The spa also operates a full-service salon for hair, nails, and beauty treatments — convenient for wedding parties or special occasions. Adjacent to the spa, the fitness center provides modern cardio and weight equipment for guests wanting to maintain their workout routine. Both facilities are shared with the co-located Royal Sonesta resort.

Dining

Duke's Kauai is the resort's signature restaurant and one of the most popular dining spots in Lihue. Named after legendary surfer Duke Kahanamoku, it serves fresh seafood, prime steaks, and Hawaiian-inspired dishes with direct beachfront seating overlooking Kalapaki Bay. The Barefoot Bar downstairs is perfect for sunset cocktails and appetizers with your toes practically in the sand. Duke's hula pie — a macadamia nut ice cream creation — is a must-order dessert.

Beyond Duke's, the resort complex offers three additional restaurants. Kukui's on Kalapaki Beach serves Pacific Rim cuisine in a casual open-air setting. Toro Tei Sushi Bar provides contemporary sushi and sake. Café Portofino delivers authentic Northern Italian dishes with views overlooking the bay — its osso buco and fresh pasta are standouts. An on-site convenience store stocks basics for in-villa meal prep.

Golf

While there's no on-site course, Hokuala Golf Club (formerly Kauai Lagoons) is just 2 miles from the resort. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, this 18-hole oceanfront course features six holes along the coast with dramatic cliff-edge shots. The par-72 layout plays 7,070 yards from the tips, with the signature 14th hole requiring a tee shot over the Pacific Ocean. Green fees typically run $225-$275, with twilight rates available.

The Nicklaus design takes full advantage of the coastal terrain, and several holes offer views of Nawiliwili Harbor and the Haupu mountain range. The clubhouse restaurant provides a solid post-round lunch. For resort guests, the proximity means you can easily fit in 18 holes and still be back at the pool by afternoon.

Nearby Attractions

The resort's Lihue location puts you at the geographic center of Kauai, within reasonable driving distance of every major attraction. Wailua Falls, the twin 80-foot cascades made famous by Fantasy Island, is just 15 minutes north. The Fern Grotto — a natural amphitheater draped in ferns accessible by riverboat — sits 20 minutes away on the Wailua River. The Kauai Museum in downtown Lihue is a 5-minute drive and provides excellent context on Hawaiian history and culture.

Head south for 25 minutes and you reach Poipu Beach and the sunny South Shore, including Spouting Horn blowhole and the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Drive north for 45 minutes and you'll reach Hanalei Bay and the dramatic Na Pali Coast lookouts. Nawiliwili Harbor, a 5-minute walk from the resort, serves as the departure point for Na Pali sunset cruises, sport fishing charters, and whale-watching tours in winter months.

For shopping, Kukui Grove Center — Kauai's largest mall — is a 10-minute drive. The Anchor Cove Shopping Center sits within walking distance and houses several gift shops and eateries.

Tips & Good to Know

Book an oceanfront unit in the Kilohana Wing for the best unobstructed views of Kalapaki Bay — upper floors (3+) are worth the premium. If you're on a budget, garden-view parlors still offer access to all resort amenities at a lower price point. The resort is undergoing renovations through April 2026, so check which areas are affected before booking and request a unit away from active construction zones.

The free airport shuttle is a genuine perk — Lihue Airport is just 2 miles away, saving you a rental car on arrival and departure days. If you're staying multiple nights, consider picking up groceries at the nearby Costco or Walmart (both within 10 minutes) to take advantage of the in-villa kitchenette. Duke's happy hour runs daily from 3-5 PM with discounted appetizers and cocktails — arrive by 3:30 to snag a beachfront seat.

The best time to visit is April through June or September through November, when rates drop 20-30% from peak season and the weather is still excellent. Marriott Bonvoy members should check for loyalty rate discounts, and AAA members can save 15% on stays of 3+ nights.
