Overview

Sheraton Kauai Resort Villas occupies a lushly landscaped 5-acre plot on Kauai's sunny South Shore, directly behind its sister property, the Sheraton Kauai Resort. While the villas are technically across the road from the beach, the main resort's oceanfront pools and Poipu Beach itself are a 2-3 minute walk — close enough that the beach-to-villa commute is effortless. The Villas launched as Sheraton Vacation Club's entry into the Kauai market, offering condo-style living with resort amenities.

The real appeal here is the combination of spacious, apartment-style accommodations with full access to the Sheraton Kauai Resort's impressive beachfront facilities — including RumFire restaurant, oceanfront pools, and the Auli'i Lu'au. You get villa comforts (kitchenettes, washers/dryers, separate living spaces) without sacrificing the resort experience. Poipu Beach, consistently rated among Hawaii's best, is your front yard.

The South Shore location guarantees sunshine — Poipu averages 300+ sunny days per year, making it the driest spot on Kauai. The surrounding area is rich with attractions: Spouting Horn blowhole, National Tropical Botanical Garden, and excellent snorkeling reefs are all within minutes. The resort is 25 minutes from Lihue Airport via a scenic drive through Old Koloa Town.

Accommodation Options

The villas offer three room types: standard guest rooms, studios, and one- and two-bedroom villas. Studios feature a king bed, a kitchenette with mini-refrigerator, cooktop, and microwave, a stacked washer/dryer, and a furnished lanai with garden or partial ocean views. One-bedroom villas add a separate living and dining area with a queen sofa bed, expanding the space significantly and sleeping up to four comfortably.

Two-bedroom lockoff villas combine a one-bedroom unit with an adjacent studio, creating a flexible layout that sleeps up to six with two king beds, a sofa bed, and two full bathrooms. Every unit includes free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, premium bath products, and resort-quality robes. The finishes are updated and clean — guest reviews consistently praise the modern interiors. The ground-floor units offer garden walk-out access, while upper floors provide better views across the tropical landscaping toward the ocean.

Pools, Beaches & Activities

The Sheraton Kauai Resort Villas has two on-site pools: the Ocean Pool, located steps from Poipu Beach with full food and beverage service from Lava's, and a garden-side pool in a more secluded, tranquil setting ideal for quiet relaxation. Both pools include sun loungers and towel service. A whirlpool hot tub sits adjacent to the Ocean Pool. Villa guests also have full access to the main Sheraton Kauai Resort's pool facilities across the road.

Poipu Beach is the real aquatic attraction. The beach offers year-round swimming, snorkeling, and bodyboarding, with Hawaiian monk seals frequently basking on the sand. The east end of Poipu Beach provides calm, protected waters ideal for snorkeling among tropical fish and sea turtles. Brennecke's Beach, a bodyboarding hotspot, is a 5-minute walk east. The resort can arrange snorkel gear, stand-up paddleboard rentals, and surf lessons through the concierge.

Dining

RumFire Poipu Beach is the standout dining experience, operated at the adjacent Sheraton Kauai Resort with direct ocean views and 180-degree vistas of Poipu Beach. The restaurant serves Hawaiian-rooted cuisine with global influences — think fresh poke bowls, island-raised beef, and creative seafood plates. The cocktail program is strong, with rum-forward drinks and tropical concoctions served as the sun drops behind the ocean. Sunset dinner here is a must at least once during your stay.

Lava's on Poipu Beach operates as the casual poolside option, serving local favorites and tropical drinks from sunrise to sunset beside the Ocean Pool. It's perfect for a quick lunch without leaving the pool deck. The resort also hosts the Auli'i Lu'au twice weekly — Kauai's only beachfront luau — featuring traditional Hawaiian food, music, hula, and fire dancing against the backdrop of the Pacific. A Link Café serves coffee and light fare on the property.

Golf

Poipu Bay Golf Course is just 5 minutes away, offering the same Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed oceanfront layout used for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. The par-72 course features cliff-edge holes with views stretching to the open Pacific. Green fees run $200-$250. Kiahuna Golf Club, a more affordable 18-hole option, is also within 10 minutes.

The resort's concierge can arrange tee times and transportation to either course. After your round, RumFire's beachfront bar is the ideal spot to recap the day's highlights over cocktails.

Nearby Attractions

Poipu Beach sits directly in front of the adjacent Sheraton Kauai Resort — a 2-3 minute walk from the villas. Beyond the beach, Spouting Horn blowhole is a 5-minute drive and one of Kauai's most popular free attractions. The National Tropical Botanical Garden, including the stunning Allerton Garden (featured in Jurassic Park), is 10 minutes away. Old Koloa Town, a charming former plantation village with ice cream shops, boutiques, and the Koloa Rum Company tasting room, is 5 minutes by car.

For adventure, Koloa Zipline and ATV tours operate 10-15 minutes from the resort. The Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail, a spectacular coastal hike along Kauai's last undeveloped stretch of South Shore coastline, starts at Shipwreck Beach (10 minutes). Waimea Canyon — the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" — is a 45-minute drive and worth a full day trip.

The Shops at Kukui'ula (10-minute walk) offer upscale dining and boutique shopping. Brennecke's Beach Broiler, across from the beach, serves excellent fish tacos and has been a local institution for decades. For groceries, Big Save in Koloa is 5 minutes away.

Tips & Good to Know

Book a two-bedroom lockoff villa for the best value with families — the studio side can function as an independent unit for grandparents or older kids wanting their own space. Request upper-floor units for better views over the garden landscaping toward the ocean. The garden-side pool is consistently less crowded than the Ocean Pool, especially during peak check-in hours.

The Auli'i Lu'au (Tuesday and Thursday evenings) sells out in advance — book early if beachfront luau is on your must-do list. RumFire's sunset seating fills quickly; make a reservation or arrive by 5 PM for walk-in bar seating with the best views. Take advantage of the in-room kitchenette by stocking up at Big Save or the Koloa Fish Market for fresh poke — it's half the price of restaurant poke bowls.

April through June and September through November offer the best combination of good weather, lower rates, and smaller crowds. The South Shore stays sunny even when the North Shore is rainy, so don't be discouraged by island-wide weather forecasts. The resort's proximity to Poipu Beach means you can easily pop back to your villa for midday naps or shade breaks — a practical advantage over resorts that require longer beach commutes.
