Premium Resort Courses ($235–$475)

These are Maui’s headline courses — architect-designed championship layouts attached to major resort complexes. They’re expensive, but they’re also the rounds you’ll remember for years.

Kapalua Plantation Course

The most expensive round on Maui and the only course that hosts an annual PGA Tour event (The Sentry, every January). Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, it’s 7,596 yards of dramatic elevation changes on the West Maui Mountains. Worth it for low handicappers; potentially frustrating for everyone else. Kapalua Bay Course

Currently closed for turf restoration. Check Kapalua Golf’s website for reopening updates. When open, it’s the more accessible of Kapalua’s two courses, designed by Arnold Palmer, and typically cheaper than the Plantation.

Wailea Golf Club (Gold, Emerald, and Blue Courses)

Wailea charges the same green fee for all three courses, which is great value when you consider the Gold is a genuine championship layout. The twilight and replay rates are where the real savings are — $77 for a round on any Wailea course after 2:30pm is outstanding. If you play Gold in the morning and Blue in the afternoon, you’re paying $235 + $49 = $284 for two rounds at a world-class facility. Staying at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea or Grand Wailea unlocks the $190 resort rate.

Mid-Range Courses ($89–$194)

Solid resort-quality courses that offer a great experience without the premium price tag. These are the sweet spot for most visiting golfers.

Royal Ka’anapali Course

Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed this course in 1962, making it one of Hawaii’s first resort courses. The 18th hole is famous — Arnold Palmer called it one of the most challenging finishing holes he’d ever played. The Sheraton Maui and Westin Ka’anapali are both on the adjacent beach.

Makena Resort Golf Club (North Course)

South of Wailea in Makena, this course sees less tourist traffic and offers a quieter, more local-feeling round. The $70 twilight rate is solid value for a resort course with ocean views.

Ka’anapali Kai Course

You don’t need a resort budget to play golf on Maui. These public courses offer real golf with ocean and mountain views at prices that won’t ruin your vacation budget.

Maui Nui Golf Club (Kihei)

Rated #1 value and #1 golf experience in America by GolfAdvisor.com. Centrally located in Kihei, the par-71 course has recently widened fairways, TopTracer technology on the range, and a welcoming vibe. The multi-play cards are a smart buy if you plan to play multiple rounds during your stay.

The Dunes at Maui Lani (Kahului)

Maui’s only links-style course, located near Kahului Airport. Perfect for a round on arrival or departure day. Robin Nelson designed the 6,423-yard layout with rolling dunes, elevation changes, and a Scottish-inspired feel. The closest course to the cruise terminal too.

Pukalani Country Club (Upcountry)

The cheapest golf on Maui (aside from the municipal course). Perched at 1,100 feet on Mount Haleakala, Pukalani offers panoramic views of the Pacific that rival anything at the $400+ resort courses. The Thursday visitor rate of $49 all-in is the best deal in Maui golf, full stop. The vibe is local and mellow — no pretension, just good golf.

Waiehu Municipal Golf Course (Wailuku)

Maui’s municipal course is basic but charming. Three holes sit right alongside the beach, the conditioning isn’t resort-level, but at $66 for a full round (or $33 twilight) as a visitor, you’re playing oceanside golf for lunch money. The $2 student rate is the best deal in Hawaiian golf history.

How to Save Money on Maui Golf

A few strategies that can cut your golf spending significantly:

1. Play twilight. Almost every Maui course offers reduced rates from 1:00–2:30pm onward. Wailea drops from $235 to $77. That’s a 67% saving for essentially the same course in afternoon light.
2. Book multi-round packages. Hawaii Tee Times and Maui Golf Shop offer bundled deals — the “Maui Golf Challenge” gives you three top courses at a package price. Ka’anapali’s Stay & Play packages combine lodging and rounds.
3. Play weekdays. Several courses charge more on weekends, and tee times are tighter with local play. Tuesday through Thursday tends to be the sweet spot.
