Great Family Restaurants in Honolulu

Honolulu is known for its warm water, gentle surf, and perfect beaches, but all that outdoor fun will make for some hungry kids. So, here’s a few family friendly dining options to refuel including some delicious local Hawaiian cuisine.

Duke’s Waikiki

One of the top family-friendly restaurants in Honolulu is Duke’s Waikiki. Located right on the beach, Duke’s restaurant offers a relaxed casual island atmosphere and super delicious Hawaiian style dishes. There’s a bunch of seafood options, like poke fish tacos, and there’s plenty of other options like ribs, steak, burgers and sandwiches for kids (and parents) that are not big fans of seafood. For families with younger kids there’s a kid’s menu with smaller portions and simple dishes for picky eaters.

Helena’s Hawaiian Food

Another fun option for families is Helena’s Hawaiian Food. It’s casual, and as the name suggests serves authentic Hawaiian food, made with local ingredients. The menu features Hawaiian favorites like kalua pig, lau lau, and poke fish. Food is available to eat in or take away. It’s super affordable and the portions are generous, so it’s a great place to feed a family on a budget.

Steak Shack

Steak Shack offers super simple plates of beef or chicken on rice or salad to go. It’s healthy, cheap, and tasty AF. Kids love it, and you can eat it on the beach (Steak Shack is practically on Waikiki Beach), or take it back to your hotel. This is a go-to meal whenever my family are in Hawaii, everyone loves it.

Traditional Hawaiian Luau

Finally, while you are in Hawaii you have to visit a traditional Hawaiian luau. If I am honest I am not a huge fan of the food at a luau, but it’s a must do as it is as much about the experience as it is about the food. These events feature live music, hula dancing, and a buffet of traditional Hawaiian dishes. Paradise Cove Luau, Germaine’s Luau, and the Royal Hawaiian Luau are all great for families.

Honolulu has plenty family-friendly dining options, There’s plenty of fast food options from the mainland, as well as local Hawaiian restaurants. There’s buffets, steakhouses, no one will go hungry in Waikiki. But you need to check out the above restaurants on your family vacation in Hawaii.
